Portsmouth, NH - March 14, 2001- Newmarket International announced that the Baltimore Area Convention & Visitors Association has joined its e-City network, the first Internet-based, real-time exchange for hotels, CVBs, and other destination and hospitality industry entities. E-City was launched in November with San Diego as the charter e-City. Baltimore, the second city to enroll in the e-City Network, can now build its volume business potential by leveraging the Internet to exchange information, sales leads and RFPs with member hotels, meeting planners, and all B2B distribution channels.
"The momentum is building for e-Cities as more industry leaders discover how it works and what it delivers," said Newmarket International President & CEO Steve Giblin. "In the few short months that the San Diego CVB has been an e-City, they have seen a demonstrated ROI, both in terms of generated leads and time savings. Baltimore looked at those results and decided that the time was right for them to also become an e-City." Baltimore's e-City community, which will be comprised of hotels, event facilities and other hospitality properties, will utilize Newmarket NetXchange Meeting Broker, formerly "Being and e-City, will now allow us to expedite the process by which we forward leads to properties that currently receive them by fax or metered mail," said Gary W. Brown, Vice President, Sales & Services at the Baltimore Area of Conventions and Visitors Association. "This will enable BACVA to respond to business quickly and more efficiently." Newmarket's technology also supports easy-to-use databases where information such as unfulfilled RFPs, customer and event data can be archived within a CVB's or properties' sales automation system for on-demand analysis. "Newmarket is the leader in delivering Internet solutions to the global hospitality marketplace. Through superior technology, extensive, support, domain expertise, and a commitment to the industry, we empower our customers' to increase efficiencies to maximize their profits - e-City does exactly that, said Giblin. "As more CVBs populate this network, we expect transactions and communication to begin moving horizontally to create a worldwide electronic trading community for all of hospitality.
