Newmarket International Transforms Hospitality Industry with Launch of e-City Network
San Diego Becomes First Internet Live e-City
29 November 2000

SAN DIEGO -- Newmarket International today officially launched its e-City network, the first Internet-based, real-time conduit for hotels, CVBs, and other destination- and hospitality-industry entities to share information, sales leads and Request-for-Proposals (RFPs) for volume business. Joining in the announcement was the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau and San Diego's Wyndham Emerald Plaza, the first CVB and hotel property to join the San Diego network, Newmarket's charter e-City.

"The Internet is the most meaningful advancement to affect the hospitality industry since the telephone reservation," said Newmarket International CEO Steve Giblin. "By leveraging the capabilities of the Internet, the e-City network will quickly enhance the revenue potential for hospitality venues and empower convention & visitors bureaus, such as San Diego's, to more effectively drive business to their regions."

"e-City will forever change the way convention business is booked with CVBs and destinations," said Giblin.

e-Cities are populated via Newmarket's . The e-City, which will be comprised of convention & visitors bureaus, hotels, event facilities and other hospitality venues, will utilize Newmarket's Web-based infrastructure to link with one another so that sales leads and RFPs that arrive at the CVB can be processed and booked faster and easier. Through sophisticated sorting capabilities, qualified properties will quickly receive lead information. In addition, the e-City network will support a database of information, such as unfulfilled RFPs, customer- and event data that can be archived within the CVB's or properties' sales automation system for round-the-clock access and analysis.

"Wyndham Emerald Plaza joined e-City for three primary reasons: First, the technology allows us to increase our sales potential by only focusing on relevant leads and RFPs" said Jim Hollister, General Manager of the Wyndham Emerald Plaza. "Second, the infrastructure allows my staff to view RFPs in a consistent format and answer them literally within minutes. And third, the data-storage element of the e-City provides us with on-demand information to track current customers and, most importantly, identify other prospects."

"As one of the fastest-growing visitor destinations in the world, it's important that the San Diego CVB is known as an organization that is efficient and service-oriented," said Reint Reinders, President and CEO of the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Becoming an e-City will now allow our members to receive accurate information quickly and respond appropriately. San Diego certainly expects to increase its booking volume potential as a result."
