Newmarket International Leading Charge for Open Standards in Hospitality B2B E-Commerce
13 June 2000

PORTSMOUTH, NH--Newmarket International, whose Delphi software is synonymous with hospitality sales and event automation, is using this week's HITEC trade show in Dallas to spark the industry's shift towards Open Standards in B2B e-commerce.

With its new Internet service, , available months ahead of schedule and in wide use at such corporations as Wyndham International, Newmarket decided to turn a traditional product launch into a first-of-its-kind gathering of hospitality technology experts for a Forum to Accelerate E-Commerce Standards in the Hospitality Industry.

The Forum is featuring representatives from AHMA's Hospitality Industry Technology Integration Standards Advisory Committee (HITIS), the OpenTravel Alliance (OTA), Microsoft Corp., developers of the BizTalk framework, top hospitality IT professionals, and leaders in sales automation, yield management, and meeting planner Web sites.

Each Forum participant will share their vision for hospitality B2B e-commerce and the role Open Standards will play in enabling businesses to integrate all operations with the Web. Representing Newmarket is Steve Giblin, the company's President & CEO.

"Now that the Internet has changed the way our industry does business, we need to come together as a community to lay the groundwork for how to make the Web more efficient and profitable for everyone," Giblin said. "As organizations like HITIS and OTA beginning to set standards, hoteliers need to know what to expect, and how to execute long-term Web strategies."

, the industry's first market-to-market (M2M) hub for hospitality sales, is emerging as a testimonial to Open Standards. The application employs eXtensible Markup Language (XML), which HITIS has specified as the go-forward standard for Open Systems architectures. In May, Newmarket published 's XML schema on , achieving compliance with Microsoft's framework for B2B e-commerce six months ahead of schedule. In June, Newmarket joined the OTA to give its worldwide customer base of 65,000 users a voice in the organization's Hotel Working Group. Newmarket's aim is to apply standard message formats to its products to extend customer lead opportunities over the Web.

unifies meeting planers with hotels and destinations by being able to route leads from electronic Request For Proposal (e-RFP) Web sites directly into sales automation systems for immediate follow-up. The application streamlines the sales process eliminating time-consuming steps of lead dispersal, data re-entry, and faxing. Newmarket has already signed several of the industry's top e-RFP sites as lead-publishing partners, including AllMeetings.com, BusinessMeetings.com, Hot Dates Hot Rates, MADSearch.com, Meetings and Travel Online, PlanIt Online, RFP Express, and StarCite.

Newmarket and Microsoft will also celebrate 's successful launch at a reception at the historic Hotel Adolphus on Wednesday evening.
