PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Newmarket International, Inc. announced today that Loews Hotels has signed an agreement to standardize its group sales processes with Delphi Multi-Property Edition (Delphi MPE), Newmarket's thin-client sales automation program engineered for hotel cluster and regional sales offices. Loews will link three regional sales offices and its 15 North American hotels and resorts to Delphi MPE, which will be installed at Loews Hotels' corporate headquarters in New York City. Delphi MPE will enable the corporation's entire sales force to cross-sell each property and direct-book into any guest- or function room in the system with real-time information from a single database.
"We see Delphi MPE as the technological cornerstone of our sales infrastructure, enabling our entire staff to book more business and provide greater customer service at the same time," said Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Loews Hotels. "Newmarket's leadership in hospitality automation and its transition to providing e-commerce solutions makes them the ideal partner for helping us achieve our most ambitious goals." Delphi MPE is powered by a Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 database and features thin-client Internet access. Launched in November 1999, it is among the first products built to integrate with '"Both Loews Hotels and Newmarket understand how the Internet is transforming group sales," said Newmarket President Steve Giblin. "Loews is positioning itself to maximize the benefits of e-commerce through a visionary implementation of Newmarket's core products." Loews Hotels currently owns and/or operates 15 hotels and resorts in the U.S. and Canada. As part of the largest expansion in the chain's history, the company has recently opened three new properties, with four more in various stages of development. These include the first ever House of Blues Hotel, a Loews Hotel, a 367-room property located in Chicago's Marina City that opened in October 1998, and the opening of the 800-room Loews Miami Beach Hotel in December. And, as part of a joint venture with Universal, Inc. and the Rank Organisation, Loews Hotels opened the first of three hotels located at Universal Studios Escape in Orlando. The 750-room Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Studios Escape, a Loews Hotel, opened in September 1999. That will be followed by the 650-room Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Studios Escape in Fall 2000, and the 1,000-room Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios Escape, a Loews Hotel, in 2001. Also in development is the conversion of the landmark PSFS building, which will open in April 2000 as the 585-room Loews Philadelphia Hotel. Most recently, Loews announced the development of the 432 room Loews Boston Hotel in the city's theater district, which is scheduled to open in 2002.
