See it in Orlando! Orion by VingCard Elsafe Debuts at HITEC on June 22, Booth 1017 DALLAS -- When HITEC 2010 opens this week in Orlando, VingCard Elsafe, the global leader in hospitality security and part of the ASSA ABLOY Group, unveils its new intelligent energy management solution, Orion by VingCard Elsafe, which allows hotel properties to manage guestroom temperatures remotely from one central location and to automatically control temperature settings as guests travel in and out of guestrooms. “Orion by VingCard Elsafe is a revolutionary solution for hotel energy management, and we are excited to bring this new product to our hotel customers. It gives control back to hoteliers – control of runaway energy costs and control of staff productivity,” said Rune Venas, president of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality in North America. “With energy as one of the highest costs for a hotel property, Orion by VingCard Elsafe will save money for hotel properties by increasing the efficiency of hotel staff and decreasing energy costs. Most importantly for hoteliers, Orion by VingCard Elsafe dramatically improves the comfort and overall experience for hotel guests while contributing to improve hotels´ green initiatives.”
A demonstration of the new wireless energy management solution is available at Booth 1017 during HITEC 2010 from June 21-24 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The introduction of Orion by VingCard Elsafe comes just three years after the successful launch of VISIONLINE, the wireless RF-online locking system. “After three years of perfecting it, VISIONLINE delivers the ultimate convenience and ease of use in a locking solution for hoteliers and guests. The next logical step was to use our knowledge of the wireless online platform to bring this same convenience to hoteliers and guests in other mediums, like energy management,” said Venas.

Operating standalone the system detects a guest’s presence through as occupancy motion sensor, which uses the RF-online capabilities to communicate with the room’s thermostat. When operating wireless online, the system accesses the same technology to provide remote status to hoteliers for A/C runtime room occupancy and thermostat devices, and provides other event notifications such as maintenance alarms, low battery warnings to staff and the option to remotely change and set the room temperature prior to guest arrival. Additionally, the system offers hoteliers preventative maintenance schedules and occupancy trends and reports, giving real-time feedback to staff on the entire property. All activity is secured by the fact that Orion operates on the ZigBee™ Standard ISO 802.15.4 high-security open platform – the only wireless, highly secured and open standards-based platform to address the unique needs of low power monitoring and access-control network applications.
While Orion by VingCard Elsafe operates independently from a property’s locking solution, the system was designed to offer maximum functionality with VISIONLINE, VingCard’s wireless online system that offers reliable two-way communication from standalone electronic door locks to their host security and PMS systems. By operating with VISIONLINE, door locks communicate directly with the room’s thermostat upon the entry of a guest, removing the need for additional door switches. By offering a complete and smooth integration of locks, safes and thermostat on the same wireless online platform, the system determines whether an individual entering the room is a guest or a member of the hotel staff through the lock itself, informing the thermostat that the keycard opening the guestroom door is either a guestcard or a hotel staff card, signaling the thermostat to adjust the temperature. “Of course, with VISIONLINE and Orion by VingCard Elsafe on the same wireless platform, hoteliers gain the advantages of all the integration in reporting, plus the convenience of remote management from a central location for both locks and thermostat due to the same RF-online network installation,” said Venas.
