Swiss Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts and German protel hotelsoftware GmbH break the mold with a new employee training program. Without inconvenient and costly business trips training participants can learn how to handle the hotel management software sitting comfortably in front of their work station: the lesson is delivered by an online coach in three- to four-hour sessions on the Internet.
When today Mövenpick staff is to be trained in the use of new protel features, they need only travel as far as to the next web-enabled computer - and there can get started right away. This way, training participants in wide spread locations can join in a virtual group and learn about the same contents simultaneously. This is particularly profitable for hotel groups: with locations spread around the whole wide world it becomes of the utmost importance to ensure smoothly running processes, e.g. by implementing company-wide valid standards. Mr Peter Pfohl, Vice President PMS Operations, is in charge of the process development at Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts and protel`s main contact partner. He sums up the benefits of online trainings: "Apart from the enormous potential for cost and time savings, what suits us best is the high flexibility. With online trainings we are able to train our staff on short notice while at the same time pinpointing to specific needs. Together with protel we define in which way a certain protel feature is to be used at Mövenpick; during the training this process will then be communicated as a company-wide binding best practice." All that is needed to partake in an online training is a web-accessible computer, a telephone and the slender collaboration software Netviewer. As soon as a participant has registered, he can see the screen of the protel trainer on his computer. During the entire training session participants and coach keep in touch with each other by a telephone conference.
