With Signature RFID/NFC, the latest product from VingCard for contact-less electronic locks, hotel guests can use their mobile phone to open the hotel room door. The booking confirmation, room number and an encrypted room key is sent to the guest’s mobile phone before they arrive at the hotel, avoiding the need to check-in at the front desk. On arrival, the guest can proceed directly to the room, where they open the door simply by using their NFC-enabled mobile phone as the hotel room key. The mobile phone can also display loyalty information related to the stay.

SWP (Single Wire Protocol) UICC (Universal Integrated Circuit Card) based handsets are expected to emerge on the market next year. TeliaSonera and VingCard are exploring opportunities for further co-operation in the field of NFC access management.

About Near Field Communication, NFC: NFC is based on a combination of electronic transmission standards known from the chip card industry. The technology allows electronic transmission of data across distances of up to 10 cm. The NFC standard incorporates important security features required for the transmission of sensitive data for identification, ticketing and payment. Data are transmitted at a frequency of 13.56 MHz.
