Norway’s Biggest Hotel Chain Decides In Favour Of Multi Property Edition From protel hotelsoftware
11 July 2006

Oslo -- The 3, 4 and 5-star hotels belonging to Rica Hotels ASA can be found throughout Norway, and also in Sweden. This makes the Norwegian hotel chain the biggest in Norway. It was founded in 1975 by Jan E. Rivelsrud and Prince Carl Bernadotte of Sweden.

Many of the more than 90 Rica hotels are located in the popular tourist regions and major cities. Oslo alone has 8 Rica hotels, offering more than 1500 rooms in total. But also in the more remote regions, Rica Hotels with their high-quality service can be found. “Our guests enjoy the diversity, in combination with the consistent standard of comfort and service. So our offerings are as multi-faceted as our guests,” says Mr. Semb-Johansson, Vice President of Rica Hotels ASA. “And in future, thanks to a professional IT environment, our staff will also have the best support in the administration and management of each individual hotel.”

The contract between Rica Hotels ASA and the regional protel dealership SPI, System Partner International AS, was officially signed on 11 May 2006. Torbjørn Fauske, Managing Director of System Partner International, is looking forward to getting the project under way: “This is a very extensive project that we are implementing jointly. Initially 52 hotels with a total of more than 7.000 rooms will be connected up to protel MPE. The fact that we are absolutely familiar with the needs of Rica Hotels ASA and are working so well together has made ideal project planning possible.”

At present, the Rica hotels have altogether 3 different hotel management systems in use. In each case, the data is stored on the local server in the hotel. So uncomplicated data exchange or uniformity of reporting by several hotels is currently no more than wishful thinking. Once the new software variant from protel is installed, however, all that will change. The data of all the hotels connected up to the MPE system will be hosted centrally in the new Rica Hotels computer centre in Oslo. From there, up to 1,000 users at the individual hotels can be supplied with information in real time. The protel MPE program is being installed on the latest SQL server in a Citrix metaframe environment. This uniform solution comprises the classical Front Office program plus the two supplementary protel modules Banquet and Sales & Marketing.

The central data storage in protel MPE also means that the electronic sales channels only need to access one system. Through a two-way interface to the GDS provider Supranational, information on availabilities can be obtained in real time, and also the information on bookings is transferred to the hotel management system in real time. Consequently, there is no more need for manual entry of bookings or reservation data.

This helps to make online sales very much easier and, thanks to the time saving, allows the individual hotels to focus even more strongly on their core business processes.

To keep guests regularly returning, Rica Hotels operates a special loyalty programme that awards guests bonus points for every overnight stay in a Rica hotel. The administration and control of this programme will be simplified by the central, uniform reporting by all the hotels, and is a further key benefit generated by the process optimisation system.

The tendering phase and subsequent selection process for the optimum hotel management system lasted more than a year. The internal decision-making committee of Rica Hotels ASA came out unanimously in favour of protel hotelsoftware as offering the most convincing and sustainable solution in terms of functionality, reliability and security.

System Partner International owes a big debt of gratitude to protel hotelsoftware in Germany. Thanks to the extensive expert support and the good cooperation with local protel reference users, SPI was able to convince on all counts.

Also for Manfred Osthues, Managing Director of protel hotelsoftware GmbH in Dortmund / Germany, this collaboration is highly important. "As manufacturers, we support our sales partners in many different ways. For instance, we contribute our many years of experience acquired from major projects in the hotel industry throughout the world. Through this kind of expertise, we are able to strengthen our partners in international competition. Together with SPI, we are absolutely delighted at our joint success in being able to count Rica Hotels ASA among our customers.“
