COLUMBIA, Md. | While the world-famous Hooters restaurant chain is known for its relaxed and casual environment, its largest franchisee, RMD Corp., takes management technology seriously and recently installed a sophisticated system from MICROS Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCRS - News), a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality industry. RMD Corp. can now remotely manage all 41 of its Hooters locations in four states via the mymicros.net Internet portal and the comprehensive MICROS Restaurant Enterprise Series (RES) 3000, featuring an Enterprise Management module for system-wide database management.
In 2000, RMD Corp. began searching for a new point-of-sale solution that allowed instant access to company data in real time. After viewing a demo of the MICROS RES 3000 solution, RMD was impressed with the user-friendly interface and superior functionality that allows each location access to an increased amount of data. Adding the immediate access and personalization provided by the mymicros.net portal, RMD was convinced that this solution would help all of its managers improve their operating efficiency. RMD's mymicros.net solution is combined with satellite broadband to provide managers with a content-rich Internet portal which includes access to hosted applications for point-of-sale, data warehousing, business intelligence and other applications. RMD's store and regional managers can each create a "myPage" personalized dashboard for their operations, featuring real-time business metrics of their choosing, allowing them to monitor sales, promotions and labor from any Web browser at any time. Brad Harper, controller at RMD, believes this system helps managers more effectively deal with trends in sales and costs. "Mymicros.net allows us to access information on the fly at the supervisor level or from people in the field," he explained. "The system keeps them abreast of current information to which they can react immediately as issues arise. It gives our managers the ability to be more proactive and work at the front end of the curve rather than the tail end." Another key element of the MICROS RES 3000 solution is the Enterprise Management (EM) module that RMD chose to install. "With Enterprise Management, RMD has achieved the same kind of chain-wide controls that we typically provide to national and international chain restaurants with hundreds of locations," stated Alan Hayman, Executive Vice President of Restaurant Sales and Strategies for MICROS Systems. "Now RMD can enforce company-wide menu and pricing consistency, and respond effectively to the needs of each local restaurant market." Another benefit RMD is enjoying is the transformation of their paper-based accounting system to a precise electronic process. Brad Harper further stated: "We've been able to implement electronic payroll data from the system into our payroll software. We no longer key in time sheets -- the system takes care of it electronically. Eliminating the need to fax and enter time sheets has been a huge time saver. I have high expectations for what this total system can do for our business."
