RICHARDSON, TX - Guest security and advanced technology are both very high on the list of priorities to Gaylord Hotels. For the group’s most recent venture, the newly opened $515 million Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, a specially-selected combination of products from ASSA ABLOY Hospitality provides a property-wide security solution that satisfies both criteria. Like Gaylord’s first two resorts in Nashville and Orlando, the Gaylord Texan chose the DC-One dual-card locking system from TimeLox to secure all 1,511 guestrooms and suites. This uniquely flexible locking system operates on a dual platform that reads both traditional magstripe and high-capacity smart cards for maximum operational efficiency. The locks also provide a privacy feature that alerts staff when a door has been locked from the inside, thus preventing disturbing guests uneccessarily. Other convenient features include a low-battery signal and a detailed 2,500-event audit trail that documents the time and date of each door opening, including the identity of the user. At the Gaylord Texan, a single keycard can provide guests with convenient access to several designated areas in addition to their assigned guest room(s), including conference rooms, fitness centers, garages and elevators. Guests may also use the keycard for payment of various services throughout the property. Poolside servers use a wireless POS device to swipe guests’ keycards, charging the total directly to the guest folio. The POS data is encoded on a separate track of the magnetic stripe, and is then transferred to and managed by the POS system directly. “The Gaylord Texan is one of the only resorts that has fully utilized the DC-One locking system’s ability to interface with point-of-sale operations,” said Paul Zimmerman, TimeLox brand manager for ASSA ABLOY Hospitality. “Gaylord guests can use their keycards any place on the properrty, even poolside, and the charges are automatically posted to their folio.” To complement the locking system technology, the Gaylord Texan chose Elsafe’s M28 electronic safes to provide in-room security for their guests. This low profile safe is especially designed to hold any size laptop computer, and is concealed inside the guestrooms’s entertainment armoire. The Elsafe M28 safe provides the convenience of an individually selected PIN code for each user, and features the industry’s most complete audit trail capability.
