Bellagio bets on future integration with installation of the TimeLox DC-One IR5 Online Solution
9 October 2003

DALLAS, TX - Bellagio, one of the most luxurious mega-complex gaming resorts on the Las Vegas strip, is beginning installation of a TimeLox DC-One IR5 Online Solution locking system to secure all 3,005 guestroom doors at the existing property. The installation, which commenced in August, is being done as part of a $375 million renovation project, and will be completed in phases over a six-month period. An additional 925 luxury rooms and suites will be secured with the same system when construction is completed on the new Spa Tower expansion which broke ground in April of this year.

The TimeLox DC-One IR5 system was chosen for its unique ability to combine the functionality of an online locking system with the stability of offline locks. "The capability of operating offline provides an important backup in case of power loss or system failure at the property," says Paul Zimmerman, TimeLox Brand Manager for ASSA ABLOY Hospitality Inc. "As a 5-star resort, Bellagio wanted to ensure that its guests are never inconvenienced by locks that don't operate properly, especially in an emergency situation that could cause loss of power."

During the selection process, the MGM Mirage Resorts management team involved representatives from all of their properties, who tested and compared products based on a detailed list of 78 different required features. This multi-property selection panel was formed, in anticipation of future integration of technologies and operations between the resorts, including a company-wide Mirage Resorts players club that would allow guests of one resort to shop, dine and play at other sister resorts using the same card. The One-Card Solution, which is a feature of the TimeLox DC-One IR5 system, proved to be an ideal solution for this integration, which will add convenience for the guest, as well as increasing marketing and revenue opportunities for the client.

Another important consideration was the DC-One IR5 Online Solution's dual-platform capability that allows the locks to read both magstripe and smart cards for maximum operational flexibility. Since the property covers such a large area, the ability to relocate guests and extend stay times without re-encoding keycards is also a convenient feature for both staff and guests.

A cost efficient alternative to hard-wired systems, the TimeLox DC-One IR5 Online Solution utilizes infrared communication technology that was developed in partnership with INNCOM International Inc. This online feature allows the front desk and security personnel to detect 'door ajar' conditions and immediately cancel lost staff cards without visiting the locks. It also provides sequential and roaming intruder alarms, 'low battery/maintenance needed' notification, an instant staff locator, and an all-inclusive event list with real-time data transfer.
