, a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality industry, has begun a major system upgrade for UK-based Whitbread Restaurants, a division of Whitbread Group PLC. All of Whitbread's Beefeater, Brewers Fayre and Brewsters restaurants will begin upgrading their existing MICROS 2700 restaurant management systems to MICROS Restaurant Enterprise Series (RES) 3000 version 3.2, with total rollout expected to conclude in November 2003. The transaction also includes more than 1,000 new MICROS Eclipse PC Workstations to be installed throughout the Beefeater brand.
MICROS Systems, Inc. has been associated with Whitbread Group PLC for nearly a decade. The MICROS 2700 system was originally deployed across all 41 Whitbread owned and operated TGI Friday's UK stores in 1994, followed by the 2700 rollout for Beefeater in 1996. Whitbread chose MICROS 3700 for Brewers Fayre and Brewsters in 1999-2000, bringing the total number of installed locations to over 500. Whitbread also owns and operates 60 Marriott franchises in the UK, all of which use the Fidelio Front Office and MICROS Point-of-Sale systems. "This extensive upgrade to RES 3000 v 3.2, is a result of the close working relationship we share with Whitbread Group," stated Frank Ward, Managing Director of MICROS-Fidelio UK. "RES 3000 will provide these three strong restaurant brands with the latest touchscreen technology and other new features for greater operational controls. "We will install the MICROS 3700 Point-of-Sale, Enterprise Management, Product Management and Electronic Funds Transfer Point-of-Sale software modules, and Beefeater will conduct a trial of the Kitchen Display System for potential use in the future." "The open architecture of RES 3000 offers an ideal platform for further growth and system expansion," added Steve Deakin, Project Manager for Whitbread Restaurants. "The server interface is quite flexible, which will allow easier rollouts of new applications as we need them. Upgrades and retraining for our managers and staff will require less time, allowing us to more effectively control IT costs."
