Mobile MICROS 3700 Chosen to Enhance Customer Service At The Stinking Rose in San Francisco
Wireless Handheld Solution Includes Credit Card Over IP and Gift Card Integration at 290-Seat North Beach Landmark Restaurant
6 August 2003

COLUMBIA, Md. -- MICROS Systems, Inc. [NASDAQ: MCRS] , a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality industry, has installed a new point-of-sale (POS) system, including both software and hardware components, at The Stinking Rose restaurant in San Francisco. For software, the Stinking Rose chose the MICROS 3700 POS with credit card over Internet Protocol (IP) capability as well as gift card integration. The hardware purchase included ten handheld terminals, six Eclipse workstations, and a scanner for retail items.

"I selected the MICROS handheld system because of the efficiency of service it provides," said Jerry Dal Bazzo, owner of the Stinking Rose and several other California restaurants. "Handheld terminals improve service in many ways, including speed of service and order accuracy. This newest generation of MICROS handheld works extraordinarily well, allowing orders to be entered quickly and easily. Our waiters can now stay on the floor with guests rather than having to go back and forth to a fixed terminal or the kitchen. It actually helps our waiters to become better servers."

Ed Chapel, Vice President, North American Sales of MICROS, stated, "Mobile MICROS 3700 was developed specifically for table service and quick service restaurants, and includes all the features restaurant managers want in a rugged, reliable package. Handhelds allow convenient service to patios, decks, and poolside areas that have been difficult to service effectively in the past. Handhelds can also be used in traditional restaurant settings to enhance guest service and increase table turns. It's a system that many of our customers are implementing with excellent results."

The MICROS 3700 POS features a powerful combination of applications to streamline operations for food and bar business, and to simplify back-office management with accurate, up-to-the-minute reporting and analysis. MICROS' third-generation handheld system, Mobile MICROS, runs on the user-friendly Windows(R) Pocket PC platform, utilizing industry-standard wireless network protocols and supporting magnetic card readers, scanners, and local and remote printing.

In conjunction with the MICROS 3700 POS installation at the Stinking Rose, MICROS also implemented the restaurant's new credit card approval system. By transporting credit card data via the restaurant's DSL connection, transactions can now be approved within 2-4 seconds, as compared to an average 15 seconds per transaction with a dial-up process.
