The Windy City was busy even before HITEC started. Nine prominent hotel industry technology leaders from around the world met and agreed to form an initiative to break through the current impasse on systems integration and productivity. Hotel Technology - Next Generation (HTNG)was born. What is it? Who is involved? How does it differ from other initiatives that have come and gone or are still around, including HITIS, LINK and OTA? Dan Connolly, Assistant Professor, School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management, University of Denver, Denver, Colorado, is part of the multi-national, multi-disciplinary group that makes up HTNG. Phone: 303.871.4278 Ph.D., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Dr. Daniel Connolly is an assistant professor of information technology and electronic commerce at the University of Denver's Daniels College of Business with a dual appointment in the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management and in the Department of Information Technology and Electronic Commerce. Dr. Connolly's teaching, research, and consulting focus on the strategic application of information technology and electronic commerce. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Connolly spent nearly 8 years working at Marriott International's corporate headquarters in the area information systems. In addition, he has consulted with numerous organizations in the hospitality, health care and technology sectors, and has more than 10 years of experience in hotel and restaurant operations. Before joining the faculty at the University of Denver, Dr. Connolly served on the faculties of Cornell University, Michigan State University, Virginia Tech, and Concord College, where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in information technology, strategic management, finance, and hospitality administration. Dr. Connolly is a member of Giga Information Group's ExperNet, a select network of information technology professionals, and as president of ConnQuest, Inc., actively consults for businesses and organizations on the strategic application of information technology. In 1996, Dr. Connolly was awarded Virginia Tech's prestigious Department of Hospitality and Tourism Ph.D. Research Award for outstanding research and contributions to his field. Dr. Connolly is vice president of the Hospitality Information Technology Association (HITA), serves on the editorial review boards for the International Journal of Hospitality Information Technology and Bottomline and is a member of the technology advisory committee for Hotel & Motel Management. He has author or co-authored numerous publications, and routinely presents his work at industry and professional conferences and symposiums around the world. He resides with his wife Sarah in Littleton, CO.
