Six Continents Hotels Launches Next Generation Property Management System In Asia Pacific

COLUMBIA, Md., MICROS Systems, Inc. [NASDAQ: MCRS] , a leading provider of information technology systems to the hospitality industry, and Six Continents Hotels, Inc. (formerly Bass Hotels & Resorts), today announced the adoption of MICROS OPERA Enterprise Solution (OES) in the chain's Asia Pacific hotels. This is part of a program to move the core business systems of Six Continents Hotels to the cutting edge of technology, which will result in maximization of revenue and greater operational efficiencies. Crowne Plaza Canberra in Australia was the first hotel in Asia Pacific to go 'live' with MICROS's OES and was followed by Hotel Inter-Continental Hong Kong.

To date, Six Continents Hotels has invested heavily in the next generation systems' project, primarily on research, development and support to ensure the delivery of superior value to its hotels. "In today's business environment, it becomes critical that we leverage our experience to help drive value for companies under our global umbrella. They will have access to our infrastructure and knowledge that will ultimately result in incremental revenue generation," said Richard Hartman, Managing Director, Six Continents Hotels, Asia Pacific.

Six Continents Hotels is seeking ways to migrate all disparate systems to a common, next-generation platform. This includes two other core business systems, the central reservation system and the revenue management system.

"The present environment for business management solutions is fragmented. Upon completion of this integration project, the central reservation system will seamlessly interact with the property management system. This will ensure instant guest recognition across all Six Continents Hotels globally, enabling staff to better manage guest preferences, and ensure superior levels of service quality and satisfaction," said Jinou Park, Regional Director of Revenue Management and Systems Planning, Six Continents Hotels, Asia Pacific.

"Hotel owners and investors can also expect greater returns and value with the adoption of this new system. Advancing and integrating our systems lead to controlled total cost of system ownership for owners. Also, once staff are acquainted with the new graphical user interface and trained in managing the system, they can be assigned to any Six Continents Hotels brand without the need for re-training or orientation."

While the central reservation and revenue management systems run on Six Continents Hotels' internal system with its main frame in Atlanta, Six Continents Hotels is working with MICROS in the deployment of the OPERA property management system, which operates on an Oracle 8i database.
