COLUMBIA, Md., June 7 / hotelBANK, Inc., a subsidiary of MICROS Systems, Inc.
[NASDAQ: MCRS]
, announces the availability of its second generation Application Programmer Interface (API) to complement its successful hotel-based corporate travel solution known as "Company Direct." Over 50 European corporations currently utilize the hotelBANK solution, which is connected to over 2,800 hotels.
Company Direct is an Internet solution that allows companies to implement their travel policies to each individual employee via the company's Intranet, utilizing any standard browser and web-enabled device. Through a secure system, employees are empowered to make online reservations directly anytime and anywhere in the hotels and at the special rates defined by the company's travel policy. The addition of capabilities such as Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and air, rail, and car functionality are a continuation of the value-added approach that clients enjoy on the hotelBANK Exchange. Telia AB, the leading telecommunications company in Sweden, has been using the hotelBANK Exchange Company Direct service since March 1997. It was the first company to use the API for a seamless integration into the company's Intranet, named AKE. Stefan Oeserdahl, Technical Production Manager for Telia AB, stated, "I am very excited about the enhanced features and functionality of hotelBANK's second generation API. I am expecting even higher adoption rates by our employees, which will generate a significant increase of hotel reservations through the hotelBANK Exchange as well as cost savings in our travel expenses." Telia AB is also working on the development of a direct link to SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System) by using an API for a seamless connection directly to SAS for all their SAS flight reservations. This new feature will also include an automatic hotel availability check using the existing hotelBANK Exchange. "I am very pleased with the development enhancements and timelines as well as the very successful and professional business relationship between hotelBANK and Telia AB," Oeserdahl continued. "All Telia AB employees are able to interactively make their own travel accommodations with hotels at corporately negotiated rates as well as allow on-line communication between Telia's AKE Intranet solution and participating hotels on the hotelBANK Exchange, including electronic RFP issuance and response. Telia AB will also participate with hotelBANK in the expansion of the hotelBANK Exchange to include air, rail and car booking functionality later this year as well as WAP implementation."
