, a leading provider of information technology solutions to the hospitality industry, announces the opening of a new subsidiary in South Africa called MICROS-Fidelio South Africa Pty. Ltd.
The new entity is a result of the merger of MICROS South Africa Pty. Ltd., MICROS's authorized point-of-sale (POS) distributor and Fidelio Southern Africa Pty. Ltd., MICROS's local subsidiary that sells and supports the Fidelio hotel information systems. MICROS South Africa Pty. Ltd. was acquired from a management group led by Peter Booth, who will become the new managing director of the new company. The operation will have over 75 employees to handle sales and service. This MICROS subsidiary has offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban. It will be responsible for the sale and services of all of MICROS restaurant POS systems and Fidelio hotel software systems for South Africa. The office will also cover the South African homelands of Lesotho and Swaziland and neighboring countries of Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Carroll Johnson, MICROS's Executive Vice President, Operating Units Group, stated, "We are excited about the formation of this new office that will combine our MICROS POS and Fidelio sales and support operations. South Africa and its neighboring countries possess excellent growth prospects for trade and tourism and we think that it is important to increase our investment and presence in this region."
