MICROS Installs OPERA, a New Generation Property Management System, At 2,046-Room Westin Singapore
9 September 1999

SINGAPORE and BELTSVILLE, Md. / Sept. 9, 1999-- The Westin Stamford and Westin Plaza in Singapore are pleased to announce that the hotels have successfully installed the new MICROS-Fidelio brand property management system, OPERA, from MICROS Systems, Inc. [NASDAQ: MCRS] .

The project included the 1,263-room Westin Stamford, the tallest hotel in the world, and the 783-room Westin Plaza.

The Westin Stamford and Westin Plaza hotels are the first in Asia/Pacific to take advantage of OPERA's state-of-the-art hotel automation system that offers the most advanced property management for the hotel industry. Converting the 2,046-room five-star hotel with high occupancy levels was a major challenge due to the need to maintain high service quality throughout the entire project.

David Shackleton, Managing Director, The Westin Stamford and Westin Plaza, said, "We are very grateful for the professionalism, dedication and incredible hard work shown by all the staff involved in this project. It is indeed a great achievement to have completed the project within the intended timeframe, despite its complexity and scale, and we have only the very dedicated MICROS-Fidelio team members to thank for this!"

MICROS-Fidelio's ability to understand the specific needs of its clients, coupled with its expert installation and support of its systems, were the reasons behind Westin's confidence in appointing it as major contractor and project management company for this enormous operation.

With more than 400 users connected to the network, Westin needed a company it could depend on to seamlessly and completely transition the hotel's entire hardware, software and network overnight, without disrupting the normal operation of the hotel.

"The smooth and successful cut over on 28 August 1999 was a well deserved result for the hard work and dedication of all people involved in this project," said Stefan M. Piringer, Senior Vice President of MICROS-Fidelio Asia/Pacific. "And because this is MICROS-Fidelio's largest installation in the world, it was an especially exciting milestone," he added.

The new OPERA Property Management System will increase control for Westin and service for its guests as it allows a single room inventory to be operated for all of the Westin's 2,046 rooms in both hotels.

OPERA is designed to support a comprehensive database with high transaction volumes such as is required at The Westin Stamford and Westin Plaza, where thousands of transactions are conducted each day. OPERA uses robust advanced database technology and development tools from ORACLE®, thus facilitating full system scalability from small properties to large, multi-complexed property environments.
