MICROS Installs Hospitality Management System in the Venetian, the World's Largest Resort and Convention Complex
The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino Delivers Enhanced Guest Service Through Advanced Integrated Information Technology
10 June 1999

MICROS Systems, Inc. [NASDAQ: MCRS] , the leading provider of information technology in the hospitality industry, installed its robust 8700 Hospitality Management System (HMS) in The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino, Las Vegas, the world's largest resort and convention complex.

The initial phase of the agreement called for the installation of MICROS POS systems in 25 bars and restaurants within The Venetian. With a soft opening in early May, The Venetian will continue to bring restaurants within the casino on-line during the summer.

The Venetian selected MICROS because of the company's unique experience in providing a total hotel-casino hospitality management solution including not only advanced POS but also comprehensive systems integration. MICROS developed key interfaces between the flexible 8700 HMS and The Venetian's property management and surveillance systems.

In addition, MICROS is developing an interface between the 8700 HMS and The Venetian's customized business-critical gaming system application for tracking major players' activities including comp awards and redemptions.

Gino Basilotta, Business Analyst at The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino, said, "The Venetian intends to be the premier hotel-resort-casino in the world and we want to make sure that our patrons receive the best service possible through an unparalleled information technology infrastructure."

"The MICROS 8700 HMS met our strict criteria for service capabilities, functionality and flexibility. The 8700 HMS has a proven track record for reliability and ability to support the continuous, high-volume operations of casinos," Mr. Basilotta said.

Ed Chapel, Vice President of Western Districts at MICROS, said that the 8700 HMS allows The Venetian to have greater control and efficiency because it is designed to support consistently heavy transaction environments like those of The Venetian.

"Not only was MICROS able to meet The Venetian's information technology needs, the company was able to meet its construction schedule for installations supporting 3,036 luxury rooms, casinos, restaurants and retail shops. The Venetian has one of the most progressive information technology departments in the industry and we are excited about working with them," he said.

The Venetian is a mega-resort themed after renaissance Venice, Italy, built by the Las Vegas Sands, Inc. The resort's combination of hotel, meeting space and the Sands Expo and Convention Center make The Venetian the world's largest hotel and convention complex under one roof.
